Biochemical weapons have been severely condemned by the international community and gradually banned.

For instance, the 1925 Geneva Protocol prohibits the use of chemical and biological weapons in war. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) was opened for signatures in 1972 and came into force in 1975 to ban the development, production and stockpiling of an entire category of weapons of mass destruction. Eight review conferences of the BWC were held until 2016 and the Ninth BWC Review Conference will be held in 2021.

However, the threat of biochemical warfare remains. Because biochemical weapons can cause mass casualties in a large area at a lower cost than conventional weapons, they have been taken as an approach for terrorism.

Because of their potential wide dissemination and impacts on public health and morale, as well as public stability, the high risk to national security of anthrax, botulism, plague, smallpox, tularemia, and viral hemorrhagic fevers such as Ebola and Lassa are listed Category A bioterrorism agents/diseases by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

And people still lack effective measures to combat viruses such as Nipah, Zika, and the coronaviruses that caused severe acute respiratory syndrome and the Middle East respiratory syndrome, and Ebola. Emerging infectious diseases such as Nipah virus are listed by the US CDC as Category C bioterrorism.

“At the moment, there is no ‘surge capacity’ in the hospital system to deal with any big incident that caused extensive casualties,” says George Poste the Del E. Webb Professor of Health Innovation and Chief Scientist at The Complex Adaptive Systems Initiative (CASI) at Arizona State University (ASU).

For most people, the full extent of a biological attack is difficult to imagine. Prior to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the subsequent anthrax letter attacks, few people would have given the risk of bioterror a second thought. Today, however, a number of experts have repeatedly warned that it’s just a matter of time before there’s a significant bioterrorism attack on U.S. soil. Since 2001, senior government officials have placed bioterrorism among the top of the list of national security concerns.

How an actual biological attack would unfold depends on many variables, including which biological agent is used and how it’s dispersed. Although the best possible course of action may be to get as far away from the attacks as possible, that option may not be feasible. For instance, if the source of the attacks is unknown, leaving may be the worst thing to do since large crowds of departing residents may actually be unknowingly heading straight into an area of heavy contamination. Staying alert for critical warnings and alerts from government officials will be key to surviving the initial stages of a suspected attack.

Sheltering In Place: In some instances, the best option may be to shelter in place, avoiding all exposure to the infected and waiting for more detailed information. In the absence of a clearly defined plan with clear objectives — for example, knowing where to go and how to get there safely — staying put may be best. To shelter in place, however, you need supplies. Plan ahead and store an inventory of all the essentials.

Avoiding Exposure: Avoiding anything that may have been touched by an infected individual will reduce the possibility of exposure. During a potential attack, the public will need to protect itself not only from other people, but also from domestic animals, objects, food, and water. If the agent is airborne, staying indoors may be the only option for most people.

Having Food and Water: Having supplies will allow people to avoid exposure to potentially contaminated food and water, at least in the early stages of any attacks. Having supplies also makes it much easier to stay home and off the streets (i.e. sheltering in place). People who lack sufficient supplies will have no choice but to take to the streets in search of food and water.

Having Medical Supplies: First-aid kits, prescription medications, particulate masks (N95), goggles, and surgical gloves are some of the basic supplies every household should maintain.

Having a Bug-Out Bag (BOB): Bugging out, or getting out fast to an alternate location, is usually not recommended unless you have a secure place to go and a safe way to get there. But if the authorities advise the public to evacuate, there will probably be no time to pack for the trip. In the event of an emergency evacuation order, having a pre-packed BOB can help your group get out quickly. Food, water, self-defense, eye and face protection, and important personal papers are just some of the things to have packed and ready to go.

Under circumstances like these, people tend to allow their fear to dictate what is “reasonable” at the moment. Principles often take a back seat to “moral relativity” in the face of misfortune, even though wisdom demands that principles be held as most important in the worst of times. Freedom and civilian control over government is vital not just when our wallets are stuffed, our stomachs are fed, and the weather is mild, but when the threat of national upheaval hangs in the sky like a sun-baked vulture. When confronted with epic struggle, some people would rather defer responsibility for their survival to someone else rather than make the effort to save themselves, and thus, totalitarianism is born. Martial law in America would be no different. It will be presented to us as purely rational and absolutely necessary; an “extreme solution to extreme times”. Its success would rest solely on how many of us are willing to make the effort to determine our own destinies, and how many of us are too cowardly to do so.

Consequences Of Martial Law

Regardless of how well governments sugarcoat the prospect of martial law at its introduction after it has been instituted, it doesn’t take very long for the people to realize they have been duped. The consequences of a militarized society cannot be hidden after the fact, nor does the establishment feel the need to hide those consequences after they have been handed unlimited power.

To peer into the future of what American martial law might look like, one need only research the history of martial law and dictatorships in general. From the Philippines to China to the Soviet Union, the stages of tyranny are pretty much the same no matter where you are in the world. Anyone who believes the martial law in America will forgo any of these terrible steps, or that we will somehow maintain a sense of propriety and fairness, is going to be sorely disappointed.

Free Press Destroyed:

The very first action of any government that has achieved military control of a country is to dominate the flow of information. The greatest threat to elitist domination is usually the people who they mean to rule over. Ending freedom of the press stalls chances that a view that opposes government control will gain footing. The government enforced web filters (like those in China and being legislated in Australia) could be put in place, and arrests of citizen journalists are liable to occur.

Dissolution Of Checks And Balances:

In some cases, the military rule allows for the dissolution of states rights and even of Congress itself. If Congress is allowed to remain, it would be in a ceremonial capacity only. Under martial law, all decision making is “streamlined” into the hands of the executive branch. The excuse given for this is often the same everywhere; the President (dictator) must not have his hands tied by checks and balances during a state of crisis, otherwise, his decisions are slowed, and more people could be hurt. Once the executive branch of a country removes checks and balances, they almost never put them back willingly, even after the so-called “crisis” has subsided.

Erasure Of Civil Liberties:

Say goodbye to Habeas Corpus immediately. All tyrannies have abruptly suspended rights to fair trial, rights to legal representation, Miranda Rights, even the right to know what one has been charged with before being arrested. This process quickly devolves the justice system to the point where those who are detained simply disappear and are never heard from again. Arrests Of Activists And Dissidents:

Political opponents of the establishment, no matter how honorable and peaceful they may be, would likely be arrested. Those who have the capability to lead a movement in opposition of the current government or those who have the respect of a sizable percentage of the populace will become priority targets during martial law. All tyrants seek to quash other voices, especially strong voices so that they can create an environment in which THEIR voice is the only one that can be heard. Activists are normally labeled as subversives, insurgents, or terrorists. They are arrested and treated as enemy combatants. The reigning government will claim that such people are “dangerous” to the stability of the country, and a threat to national security. Associating activists with terrorists also makes the idea of rendition and torture slightly more palatable to the fearful public.

Economic Feudalism:

In an autocracy, everything becomes a matter of national security, even the state of the workforce. All jobs become state jobs. The very poor become a possible burden. The middle class and the very rich (if not already part of the establishment) become possible competition. This is why most tyrannies seek to establish “harmonization”, which is really just a flowery way of saying that everyone is made equally dependent on the system for their survival.

It is hard to become a successful man in an oppressive society if you are not one of the elite. It is even harder to be a pauper in the same society because you are seen as a parasite feeding off the collective (though you are probably hurting no one). Martial law is always followed by an end to economic prosperity for the average citizen and the removal of the traditional middle class. In the end, this causes the public to subjugate themselves.

It creates a system which rewards those who submit with a semblance of the status they once had. The alternative: barely eking out an existence while under constant fear that you could be labeled an impediment to social progress. Given this choice, many would choose to conform.

Food, Water, and Healthcare Rationing:

Food and water are life. Control these two things in a culture, and you have the makings of a tyranny. One of the most notable aspects in the elitist quest for empire is the trail of hunger and starvation they leave in their wake. All methods are greenlighted. Burning of farmland, hoarding of grain, heavy taxation on livestock or harvests, government micromanagement of planting, everything is fair game.

Food regulation can be taken to a whole other level in our modern age. With malicious corporations like Monsanto in operation, genetically modified crops can be created to control diet, ”Terminator seeds” which yield only one crop can be used to keep the masses from replanting, and the pollen from these plants can be used to infect the genus of non-GMO crops birthing mutant strains which damage the food chain.

By creating a food shortage, rationing then becomes inevitable, and with rationing comes greater influence. Healthcare rationing would be a natural extension until every moment of one’s life relies on the good graces of a centralized bureaucracy.

It is rare for a government to implement all of these actions in a single instant. Usually, they are introduced slowly over a period of years, and with each new decree, a problem is preemptively engineered by the elites to give a “reasonable” cause or generate a concrete fear. As time passes, people forget what life was like before, left only with the dreadful circumstances of the present, and a disquieting sensation in the pit of their stomachs, telling them that the world they have been presented is not the world we should have settled for.

Never Compromise Liberty

Tyrants prevail when they are able to fool the masses into compromising their ideals, and their conscience. They enjoy devising scenarios by which we are made to tread through a “gray area”, a place where the truth is supposedly a matter of perspective, and that which is right and balanced could become unbalanced and destructive. Once you choose to compromise a fundamental principle, they then use that moment to set precedence.

“If torture is tolerable on the chance that it could save some lives, then perhaps it is tolerable in other situations…” they say. “If some freedoms are expendable in the name of security, then perhaps others are as well.”

How do we stop elites from setting precedence in this way? We never compromise.

“Grey Area” scenarios are a charade. A rigged casino game in which there is only a single outcome and a single winner and the winner is definitely not you. The crisis is usually one that the establishment created in the first place, i.e. the economic collapse, the BP oil spill, false flag terror, etc. And, the solution is always predetermined. No obstacle has only one solution, there are a myriad of answers to every dilemma, some far better than others. Yet, time and time again, we are offered only one way to resolve every disaster; greater centralization and extended government power.

Most disingenuous of all is the constant promise by the government to keep us safe. No government has the power to offer security. Security provided by others is an illusion. The only true safety is that which one provides for himself. We accomplish this by becoming self-reliant, self-aware, and tough-minded. We do not wait for some abstract ruling body to come to our aid, and we do not trade our freedom for the false promise that they will honor their agreement.

I have heard it argued that America is different, that we should not suspect our government capable of tyranny because “we are the government”. I find this assumption extraordinarily naive. Our government has not represented the wishes of the people for decades. The leadership of both major parties have supported almost identical legislative measures and extolled parallel globalist ideologies.

I have also heard it said that freedom exists under the purview of government. That the liberties we enjoy are only possible because of the protections that government provides. Elitists often take advantage of our presumption that government is some kind of cultural obligation, one that we must bow to, and that by attrition, we must bow to them. In reality, the government is a philosophical construct; a framework that only exists because we will it so, and that administrates freedoms only so far as we allow it to do so. WE are the source of our liberty, NOT government. It is we as individuals who ultimately must protect the freedoms we enjoy. Under no circumstance is any government more vital than our personal liberty. The choice is eternally simple; when asked to sacrifice one or the other, the government must go.

The Constitution of the United States was drafted as a means to reign in government and force it to respect the freedoms of the people. It exists to deter the power hungry, for under the Constitution they are supposed to be denied the control they thirst for, not given unrestrained supremacy. Martial law is a tool by which the power hungry can remove the restraints of the Constitution and cast aside freedoms on a whim.

This is unacceptable no matter the state of affairs. War, terrorism, economic collapse, environmental catastrophe, none of these events give anyone the license to usurp our liberties. It cannot and will not be allowed. We here in America should remember what it means to call ourselves a “sovereign people”. It is a title every man is born with but few men have the strength and fortitude to keep.

“Independence” requires taxing vigilance, a persevering spirit, and the determination to see that neither is tread upon. Independence has a price. In the event that we are confronted with martial law in this country, it is a price we may have to pay all over again.

Therefore, I am less susceptible to colds and flu viruses. I eat a lot of healthy essential fatty acids that are found in coconut oil, flax seeds, chia seeds, and many other sources. The brain is 65% fat as stated in the book, Grain Brain, so the brain needs healthy fats to function properly. I am no longer arthritic and utilize Arnica for pain while utilizing herbs and spices for any inflammation.

I do not use harsh chemical cleaners anywhere in my life. I do not use anti-bacterial wipes (just vinegar or lemon juice), hand sanitizers, wound creams (We use Puracyn), antibiotics, air fresheners (we use essential oils), aftershaves, deodorants (just lemon in the armpits), shaving creams (I use coconut oil), sunscreen (I use coconut oil), or any other chemical-based or synthetic-based foods, dyes, cleaners, or foods and food additives. These chemicals can kill off beneficial life in you and on your skin that defends your existence. These chemicals, compounds, additives, flavorings, fillers, and artificial sweeteners can also alter your hormone balances, cause mutations in your cells, and affect your mental stability. Your brain is a chemical factory and so is the natural processes of your body. Don’t pollute your factory!

As one of my first mentors used to tell me, “If you want what someone has, then do what they do to have it”. If you want the immune system and other areas of internal health to survive, then you have to live the lifestyle now in order to have it when you are surviving.

External Health

As part of building a strong healthy body, I exercise regularly and strength train. I’m no world-class athlete, but I do my best in my fifties. I do have many old injury areas that tend to give me issues, but I strengthen around these areas and vary my workouts in intensity and coverage area. Cardio exercises and strength training, builds strong cells of muscle and skin, while increasing endurance and internal immune system fighters. Doing this also increases my ability to defend myself, climb to safety or for resources, run to safety or after prey, do strenuous tasks from dusk to dawn, and basically feel more secure in my ability to survive now and in the future in the absence of conveniences. External health also gives me abilities to offer any group for strength in numbers if I am assessed for usefulness.

Physical Ability

As stated in the previous category, external health means physical ability, which is key in survival and group assessment of usefulness. I do not place my future survival on the compassion of others, while they themselves, are in Competitive Survival Mode. Physical ability is essential to building a shelter that can resist all seasons. It is also essential for defending yourself, your loved ones, and your rightful property. Then there is attaining food and water, which requires carrying something that weighs more than eight pounds per gallon or digging a diversion channel to bring it closer to camp. There’s also hunting, which may require travel to where the hunting grounds are, chasing down prey, and carrying it back to camp. You may have to climb up to a safer location, run from and fight predators of four-legs or two, or even run for your life to safety when the shit does hit the fan where you are. Mobility is key to long-term survival as factors can change and the place you are now, may become unsafe in the future. Do not rely on motorized transportation and roadways.

Defensive Ability

Without defensive capabilities and abilities, even the world right now is a dangerous place for you, me, and everybody. Firearms are necessary because they are a part of the world that evil-people will always possess at any cost. Good-people must maintain the possession of firearms for reasons of the natural right of survival against evil. Even with them, your physical ability to defend yourself is key to your defensive ability. Learning martial arts is essential to any person that is considering how to survive now, and in a future situation without the rule of law, where your competition with others of evil intention will be at the level of kill or be killed – or enslaved.

Knowledge: Visual and Hands-on Experience

This goes for cooking, cleaning, health, natural medicine, foraging, fire making, hunting, fishing, shelter building, navigating, creativeness, fighting, leadership, toolmaking, tactical, tracking, defensive traps, and so much more that is needed in the absence of the rule of law and modern conveniences. If you learn it now and have the foundation of hands-on experience, then your chances of survival are far greater than that of the internet survivalist. They may have skills but are weak of heart. Skills

Skills run hand in hand with knowledge but are in the application and level of ability that is of great importance in the survival assessment. One skill that may be overlooked is the creative factor that some people have. They are the creators of what most people learn today. Someone, somewhere, at some point in history, created what you are learning. I say, “Don’t just learn what is available to learn. Create some tricks and tools of your own.” Your creativeness can form a tool or strategy that may not be in the manual, because there are so many factors yet to be experienced in all of nature and survival. The skills you learn and create now, are what you will use at your new job as an executive survivalist. Learn the basics and the advanced skills that are available now, while building your own comfortable style that is a part of you wherever you go. That way you will have with you, the most important abilities to survive against natural adversity.

Awareness

Awareness is more than just sight and sound. Those can be altered or imitated to fool you, divert you, or guide you right into a trap. In a survival situation, your senses will come alive. If you work with them now and practice associating with them, whether in nature or in the modern social environment, you will be able to sense danger, prey, and predators anywhere. You will be able to know if someone is focused on you, whether for good reason or bad ones. You will sense tectonic pressures, atmospheric changes, food, water, and more. Most of these senses, other than sight and sound, are ones that are of a chemical and barometric nature. Tectonic and atmospheric changes are registered in the body and then the brain receives an impulse. With all the distractions of sight and sound technologies, we rarely recognize them until after the earth shakes or something hits us straight in the face. When we are out in the wilds, these senses will be louder and more recognizable to us as we acclimate and begin to trust them. Practice listening to them now in preparation for a world without modern conveniences and the rule of law present. That way your acclimation period is shorter and your chance of survival will be greater. There will not be a pause button for danger, hunger, thirst, or those people of evil-intention you will be competing with.

Spiritual Stability

When faced with negativity in life, how does a person hold up? What is their foundation of life principles made of in their state of everyday living? That is the meat of spirituality and of living a spiritual lifestyle. It is not in quoting versus from any book or scripture. It is in how a person shows their spiritual nature of being, when facing the challenges of life, regardless of wealth, property, and/or personal safety. It is where courage in the face of ultimate sacrifice becomes your reality. No one can be fearful and spiritual at the same moment in time. A person will always experience fear, but it is replaced by courage when the spirit is summoned, and the principles trump all self-centeredness. That is why the true definition of spirituality is “The absence of fear”. Faith without action is dead, therefore, prayer only is for guidance to take an action in the spirit, not self-procurement of anything material and of this world. The only other time for prayer is in the support of another person who is suffering from a spiritual malady, and for guidance to come to their heart and mind, back to the internal spirit. There is no gloating of prayer and summoning of wealth or abundance. All the things we receive come from our own actions.

Mental Stability

If a person has any belief that is based in fantasy, which is not substantiated in physical fact, they are mentally unstable. Fantasy is the opposite of reality. Fantasy is a mobile and ever-changing delusion to comfort a spiritual malady, otherwise known as a disconnect from the internal spirit that should guide the mind in reality. This delusion must be forced upon others for the non-spiritual person to feel comfortable in life. Thus, this delusion can spread like a disease, depending on the comforting force of the delusion. Reality is a constant and factual set of scientific principles that are common to all forces of nature and all life forms. Reality is not soft and pretty. It is hard and discomforting. Modern conveniences have paved the way for beliefs of fantasy that are labeled spiritual in nature but are very unnatural and dangerous to all seeking to survive SHTF. Living in scientific reality creates mental stability while living in a delusional states leads to conflict between people of different delusions. People living in reality have far more freedom of thought and mobility and thus can come to more solutions to face adversities than people living in a delusional state, where they expect someone or something to solve their problems. We must be spiritually dependent on guidance to take actions for strengthening our bodies and minds or all is lost.

Communication Ability

Being able to communicate with other living beings, be that human or other animals, is essential to survival. Learning to communicate your territorial boundaries now and in survival situations from the land, is crucial to avoid conflicts that can cause harm or death to both parties involved in the discussion. These discussions may be had through vocal, visual, electronic or chemical means. You might scratch a tree and urinate on it along a common path of travel for all species to respect your territorial boundary. In the modern world, you might convey your principles to someone else to prevent a chance of infidelity or insult. You might ask someone else as to the nature of their principles to avoid insult, conflict, or loss of social and economic gain. You may someday want to hold a position of leadership in which you have to serve people of many diverse beliefs while holding the continuity and peacefulness of the group together. The ability to communicate on the terms and principles of life in the wilds may get you an entire pack of Wolves on your side through mutual respect and sharing of resources. If you discount this then you will have a rough time against many other competitors.

Leadership Ability

Communication from an unbiased and neutral standing is the only successful way to lead. Of course, there must be a set of group principles that everyone adheres to, but the leader must continually be in service to all they wish to lead. It is not wise to make enemies on purpose while proving a useless point on any subject matter. A leader simply represents the principles of the group and does not dictate. That person leads by example and keeps all people of the group involved in any disciplinary necessities. Group activity and group responsibility must always be maintained, with no one being an exception. Any group or society will always become whatever it tolerates.

When The Pharmacies Won’t Be An Option: Herbal and Natural Therapies For Diabetes After The SHTF

Diabetes is a serious disease that can often be managed through physical activity, diet, use of insulin and oral medications to lower blood sugar levels. People with diabetes are at increased risk of additional serious health complications including vision loss, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, amputation of toes, feet or legs, and premature death. As many as 2 out of 5 Americans are expected to develop type 2 diabetes in their lifetime.

According to The National Diabetes Statistics Report, 2017 analyzes health data through 2015, 30.3 million Americans, or 9.4% of the population, had diabetes. Approximately 1.25 million American children and adults have type 1 diabetes.

84.1 million Americans age 18 and older had prediabetes (a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. People with prediabetes are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes and for heart disease and stroke. Other names for pre-diabetes are impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glucose.)

1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year and even with all the technologies, and treatments available, diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States with 79,535 death certificates listing it as the underlying cause of death, and a total of 252,806 death certificates listing diabetes as an underlying or contributing cause of death.

What will people with diabetes do when the hospital and pharmacies won’t be an option anymore? When the SHTF, and it will, there will be enough things to worry about other than staying healthy.

A quick trip to your local physician and you are back on track.  So how should we prepare for when times are not so good and there is no doctor or emergency room? It is very important to understand that knowing what to do when medical care is needed may not only diminish the pain the injured party suffers—but make the difference between life and death.

What herbal therapies are available for diabetes and pre-diabetes?

Blood glucose and blood sugar are interchangeable terms, and both are crucial to the health of the body; especially for people with diabetes.

Most diabetics will be familiar with the terms blood glucose, blood glucose test, blood glucose level and blood glucose meter, but what does blood glucose really mean? Why do blood sugar levels need to be controlled?

Blood sugar levels are literally the amount of glucose in the blood, sometimes called the serum glucose level. Usually, this amount is expressed as millimoles per liter (mmol/l) and stay stable amongst people without diabetes at around 4-8mmol/L.

Spikes in blood sugar will occur following meals, and levels will usually be at their lowest in the early mornings. When it comes to people with diabetes, blood sugar fluctuates more widely.

Many common herbs and spices are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of type 2 diabetes.

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more ‘natural’ ingredients to help manage their condition.

Plant-based therapies that have been shown in some studies to have anti-diabetic properties include: 

Aloe Vera and Diabetes

Aloe vera is a product of the prickly but succulent aloe vera plant, which has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years due to its healing, rejuvenating and soothing properties.

Native to the Caribbean, South Africa, and Latin America, the plant’s leaves contain a clear gel that is widely used in:

  • Creams
  • Lotions
  • Shampoos
  • Ointments

A bitter liquid is known as aloe latex, that can be derived from the skin of the leaves, is used in juice drinks, tablets, capsules and dental care items such as toothpaste and mouthwash.

Preliminary research suggests that intake of aloe vera juice can help improve blood glucose levels and may, therefore, be useful in treating people with diabetes. [66]

Aloe has also been linked with:

  • Decreased blood lipids (fats) in patients with abnormally high levels of these molecules in the blood (e.g. some people with type 2 diabetes) and/or acute hepatitis (liver disease)
  • Decreased swelling and faster healing of wound injuries. Leg wounds and ulcers are common complications of diabetes, and they typically take a longer time to heal than in healthy non-diabetic individuals.

These positive effects are thought to be due to the presence of compounds such as lectins, mannans, and anthraquinones.

What other health benefits does it have?

As well as being mainly used to help soothe and heal skin problems and irritations, aloe vera also:

  • Supports digestive system health
  • Helps treat constipation
  • Helps the healing process in regards to both pain and inflammation
  • Prevents scars after surgery
  • Aids dental health

In addition, preliminary studies suggest that oral aloe vera gel may reduce symptoms and inflammation in patients with ulcerative colitis, which is a form of inflammatory bowel disease.

Bilberry Extract

Bilberries (scientific name: Vaccinium myrtillus) are a dark blue fruit, similar in appearance to blueberries but are smaller, softer and darker.

Research studies indicate that a compound in bilberries, anthocyanosides, appear to promote blood vessel strength which could have protective properties against forms of retinal damage in people with diabetes.

What are anthocyanosides?

Anthocyanosides are a part of a class of nutrients called flavonoids that are found in a number of fruits and other plants.

Anthocyanosides are found abundantly in a number of purples, blue and red berries and also in purple colored vegetables.

Bilberry extract is not recognized as a treatment for diabetes but people with diabetes may notice that it helps in lowering blood glucose levels.

If you are on blood glucose lowering medication that can bring on hypoglycemia, you may need to monitor your blood glucose levels and take precautions to ensure blood sugar levels don’t go too low.

What are the benefits of bilberry extract?

The following benefits have been observed from research studies into bilberries, bilberry extract or anthocyanosides:

  • Strengthens blood vessels
  • Improves circulation
  • Treats diarrhea
  • Prevent cell damage
  • Could help in treating retinopathy
  • May help lower blood glucose levels

Bilberry extract and retinopathy

Retinopathy and maculopathy are both conditions of the retina in the eye that are more likely to develop in people with diabetes.

Research has shown that people with retinopathy that took bilberry extract during the study showed signs of strengthening of blood vessels in the retina and reduced hemorrhaging.

The research that has been carried out to date has been small scale and so whilst bilberry extract shows promise, researchers are yet to find out how much bilberry extract may be of help in limiting the development of retinopathy.

Bitter Melon and Diabetes

Bitter melon, also known as bitter gourd or karela (in India), is a unique vegetable-fruit that can be used as food or medicine.

It is the edible part of the plant Momordica Charantia, which is a vine of the Cucurbitaceae family and is considered the most bitter among all fruits and vegetables.

The plant thrives in tropical and subtropical regions, including:

  • South America
  • Asia
  • parts of Africa
  • the Caribbean

The bitter melon itself grows off the vine as a green, oblong-shaped fruit with a distinct warty exterior – through its size, texture and bitterness vary between the different regions in which it grows – and is rich in vital vitamins and minerals.

How does it affect diabetes?

In addition to being a food ingredient, bitter melon has also long been used as a herbal remedy for a range of ailments, including type 2 diabetes.

The fruit contains at least three active substances with anti-diabetic properties, including charantin, which has been confirmed to have a blood glucose-lowering effect, vicine and an insulin-like compound known as polypeptide-p.

These substances either work individually or together to help reduce blood sugar levels.

It is also known that bitter melon contains a lectin that reduces blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and suppressing appetite – similar to the effects of insulin in the brain.

This lectin is thought to be a major factor behind the hypoglycemic effect that develops after eating bitter melon.

Scientific evidence

A number of clinical studies have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of bitter melon in the treatment of diabetes.

In January 2011, the results of a four-week clinical trial were published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, which showed that a 2,000 mg daily dose of bitter melon significantly reduced blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes, although the hypoglycemic effect was less than a 1,000 mg/day dose of metformin. [68]

Other older studies have also suggested an association between bitter melon intake and improved glycemic control, while a report published in the March 2008 issue of Chemistry and Biology found that bitter melon increased cellular uptake of glucose and improved glucose tolerance. [69]

However, research published in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology in 2007 failed to show any benefits of bitter melon for poorly controlled type 2 diabetes, while another clinical review published two years later in the British Journal of Nutrition stated that more, better-designed and clinical trials are required to confirm the fruit’s role in diabetes treatment. [70]

What other health benefits does it have?

Bitter melon is used in traditional medicine for:

  • Colic
  • Fever
  • Burns
  • Chronic cough
  • Painful menstruation
  • Skin conditions

It is also used to heal wounds, assist childbirth and, in parts of Africa and Asia, prevent or treat malaria and viral diseases such as measles and chicken pox.

In addition, researchers from Saint Louis University in the US say they have shown that an extract from bitter melon can kill breast cancer cells and prevent them from growing and spreading.

Cinnamon and Diabetes

Cinnamon is a sweet but pungent spice that is derived from the inner bark of the branches of wild cinnamon trees, which grow in tropical areas across Southeast Asia, South America and the Caribbean.

The use of cinnamon dates back thousands of years and was highly prized among many ancient civilizations.

Cinnamon, often used in cooking and baking, is increasingly being linked to improvements in the treatment of conditions such as diabetes mellitus.

Research has suggested that cinnamon can help to improve blood glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity.

How does cinnamon affect diabetes?

Results from a clinical study published in the Diabetes Care journal in 2003 suggest that cassia cinnamon (cinnamon bark) improves blood glucose and cholesterol levels in people with type 2 diabetes, and may reduce risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. [71]

A daily intake of just 1, 3, or 6 grams was shown to reduce serum glucose, triglyceride, LDL or bad cholesterol and total cholesterol after 40 days among 60 middle-aged diabetics.

Another study reported in the July 2000 edition of Agricultural Research Magazine found that consuming just 1g of cinnamon per day can increase insulin sensitivity and help manage or reverse type 2 diabetes.

In addition, a more recent analysis published in 2007 in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that 6g of cinnamon slows stomach emptying and significantly reduces hyperglycemia after meals (postprandial blood glucose) without affecting satiety. 

As a result of the scientific evidence available, many health experts claim that cinnamon contains properties that are beneficial for blood sugar regulation and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

However, bear in mind that like many natural compounds cinnamon is yet to be medically approved for prevention or treatment of any disease.

In addition to regulating blood glucose and lowering cholesterol, cinnamon has been shown to:

  • Have an anti-clotting effect on the blood
  • Relieve pain in arthritis sufferers
  • Boost the body’s immune system
  • Stop medication-resistant yeast infections
  • Help in relieving indigestion
  • Reduce the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells
  • Preserve food by inhibiting bacterial growth and food spoilage
  • Be a great source of vital nutrients, including calcium, fiber, manganese, and iron

The majority of these health benefits are associated with the use of true cinnamon (also known as Ceylon cinnamon) and not cassia bark cinnamon, which is the species involved in most diabetes research.

Fenugreek and Diabetes

Fenugreek is an aromatic plant that has many uses, both culinary – fenugreek is a key ingredient of curries and other Indian recipes – and medicinal.

The plant, which is widely grown in South Asia, North Africa and parts of the Mediterranean, has small round leaves and also produces long pods that contain distinctive bitter-tasting seeds.

The leaves are either sold as a vegetable (fresh leaves, sprouts, and microgreens) commonly known as methi or as an herb (dried leaves), while the seeds are used both whole and in powdered form as a spice.

As well as being a popular cooking ingredient, fenugreek has a number of health benefits and is used in both Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine.

How does it affect diabetes?

Fenugreek seeds (Trigonella foenum graecum) are high in soluble fiber, which helps lower blood sugar by slowing down digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. This suggests they may be effective in treating people with diabetes.

Multiple studies have been carried out to investigate the potential anti-diabetic benefits of fenugreek.

Of these, several clinical trials showed that fenugreek seeds can improve most metabolic symptoms associated with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in humans by lowering blood glucose levels and improving glucose tolerance.

In one study, researchers in India found that adding 100 grams of defatted fenugreek seed powder to the daily diet of patients with insulin-dependent (type 1) diabetes significantly reduced their fasting blood glucose levels, improved glucose tolerance and also lowered total cholesterol, LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol and triglycerides.

In another controlled trial, incorporating 15 grams of powdered fenugreek seed into a meal eaten by people with type 2 diabetes reduced the rise in post-meal blood glucose, while a separate study found that taking 2.5 grams of fenugreek twice a day for three months lowered blood sugar levels in people with mild, but not severe, type 2 diabetes.

What other health benefits does it have?

Fenugreek seeds are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which help protect the body’s cells from damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals.

For centuries they have been (and are still) used by nursing mothers to help stimulate the production of breast milk during pregnancy and following childbirth. Due to their powerful antiviral properties, they are also commonly used as an herbal remedy for colds and sore throats.

In addition, researchers believe fenugreek seeds may be effective in the treatment of arthritis, high cholesterol, skin problems (wounds, rashes and boils), bronchitis, abscesses, hair loss, constipation, upset stomach, kidney ailments, heartburn, male impotence and other types of sexual dysfunction.

Ginger and Diabetes

Ginger is the thick knotted underground stem (rhizome) of the plant Zingiber officinale that has been used for centuries in Asian cuisine and medicine.

Native to Africa, India, China, Australia, and Jamaica, it is commonly used as a spice or flavoring agent in cooking, as an alternative ‘herbal’ treatment for various ailments such as nausea and indigestion, and for fragrance in soaps and cosmetics.

The ginger rhizome can be used fresh, dried and powdered, or as a juice or oil. It has a pungent and sharp aroma and adds a strong spicy flavor to the food and drink.

Effect on diabetes

Glycemic control

A study published in the August 2012 edition of the natural product journal Planta Medica suggested that ginger may improve long-term blood sugar control for people with type 2 diabetes.

Researchers from the University of Sydney, Australia, found that extracts from Buderim Ginger (Australian grown ginger) rich in gingerols – the major active component of the ginger rhizome – can increase uptake of glucose into muscle cells without using insulin, and may, therefore, assist in the management of high blood sugar levels.

Insulin secretion

In the December 2009 issue of the European Journal of Pharmacology, researchers reported that two different ginger extracts, spissum, and an oily extract, interact with serotonin receptors to reveres their effect on insulin secretion.

Treatment with the extracts led to a 35 percent drop in blood glucose levels and a 10 percent increase in plasma insulin levels.

Cataract protection

A study published in the August 2010 edition of Molecular Vision revealed that a small daily dose of ginger helped delay the onset and progression of cataracts – one of the sight-related complications of long-term diabetes – in diabetic rats.

It’s also worth noting that ginger has a very low glycemic index (GI). Low GI foods break down slowly to form glucose and therefore do not trigger a spike in blood sugar levels as high GI foods do.

Other health benefits

Ginger has been used as an herbal therapy in Chinese, Indian, and Arabic medicine for centuries to aid digestion, combat the common cold and relieve pain.

Its powerful anti-inflammatory substances, gingerols, make it an effective pain reliever and it is commonly used to reduce pain and swelling in patients with arthritis and those suffering from other inflammation and muscle complaints.

In fact, ginger is said to be just as effective as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, but without the gastrointestinal side effects.

Other medical uses of ginger include treatment of:

  • Bronchitis
  • Heartburn
  • Menstrual pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Upset stomach
  • Diarrhea
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI)

Okra

Okra is fast gaining a reputation as a so-called ‘superfood’ for people with or at risk of diabetes or cancer.

Commonly referred to as ladyfingers, or by its biological names Abelmoschus esculentus and Hibiscus esculentus, okra is known to have a positive effect on blood sugar control, among many other health benefits.

What is Okra?

Okra is a tall-growing vegetable that traces its origin from ancient Ethiopia (Abyssinia) through to Eastern Mediterranean, India, the Americas, and the Caribbean.

Parts of the plant (immature okra pods) are widely used vegetables in tropical countries and are typically used for making soups, stews or as a fried/boiled vegetable.

These tender pods are very low in calories, providing just 30 calories per 100 g, and contain no saturated fats or cholesterol. They are also rich in nutrients, completely non-toxic, and have no adverse side effects.

How can it help treat diabetes?

Evidence of okra having anti-diabetic properties has increased in recent years, with multiple Vitro (laboratory) and Vivo (animal) studies confirming okra as a potent blood glucose-lowering (or anti-diabetic) food.

In one study, published 2011 in the Journal of Pharmacy & BioAllied Sciences, researchers in India found that diabetic mice fed dried and ground okra peels and seeds experienced a reduction in their blood glucose levels, while others showed a gradual decrease in blood glucose following regular feeding of okra extract for about ten days.

Outside of scientific research, many people with diabetes have reported decreasing blood sugar levels after soaking cut-up okra pieces in water overnight and then drinking the juice in the morning, while in Turkey roasted okra seeds have been used as a traditional diabetes medicine for generations.

  • Improving energy levels and improving symptoms of depression
  • Helping to treat sore throat, irritable bowel, ulcers, and lung inflammation

Allium

Allium sativum is more commonly known as garlic and is thought to offer antioxidant properties and micro-circulatory effects. Although few studies have directly linked allium with insulin and blood glucose levels, results have been positive.

Allium has been used safely since ancient times as both food and medicine in human populations, but studies of its efficacy in the management of diabetes have yielded conflicting results.

This study has evaluated the potential hypoglycemic effects of garlic in type 2 diabetic patients. The study was conducted in diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients (n=60) with fasting blood sugar level above 126 mg/dl to evaluate the effects of adding garlic tablets with standard antidiabetic therapy on blood sugar.

Patients were divided randomly into 2 groups. Group 1 (n=30) was given tablet Garlic (KWAI) 300 mg thrice daily + Metformin 500 mg twice daily and Group 2 (n=30) was given Placebo+Metformin 500 mg twice daily respectively for 24 weeks. Serum lipids and fasting blood glucose were measured at week 0, 12 and week 24. Group1 showed a significant reduction in fasting blood sugar at week 24 with a percentage decrease of (-3.12 percent) (P = <0.005) as compared to group 2 (0.59 percent).

At the end of week 24, GR1 group also showed considerable decrease in mean total cholesterol (6.2 mg/dl, -2.82%, P=<0.005), LDL-C (-3 mg/dl, 2.18% P=<0.005), triglycerides (-5.2 mg/dl, 3.12%, P<0.005) while HDL cholesterol was significantly increased (2.36 mg/dl, 6.72%, P<0.005) as compared to GR2 group. Combination of garlic with typical antidiabetic remedy has shown to improve glycemic control in addition to antihyperlipidemic activity. Garlic may be a good addition in the management of patients with diabetes and hyperlipidemia.

Allium may cause a reduction in blood glucose, increase secretion and slow the degradation of insulin. Limited data is available, however, and further trials are needed.

PREPARING FOR A PANDEMIC OR BIOLOGICAL THREATS

Given the whole situation of Coronavirus in China, a few days ago, a co-worker and I were bantering back and forth of some different scenarios of past pandemics that have occurred throughout history. And if you have done any research on the subject, you have seen some of the staggering statistics of the death tolls that have occurred because of these illnesses.

Now you may be wondering what is next, and if you should prepare yourself and your family for a pandemic or major outbreak? And I would like to give you a resounding yes, you should prepare for such an event!

In fact I feel it is imperative that everyone should be prepared for a catastrophic pandemic type situation, because if history has taught us anything, it has taught us that it repeats itself.

A while back, you undoubtedly heard about Ebola, and how it is spreading like wildfire throughout Africa and other parts of the world. While this didn’t turn out to be anything big…it could have.

The same thing is now true with the Coronavirus. While most cases are in China right now, a few cases have been reported right here in the U.S.

According to a news program I watched about Ebola at the time, U.S. citizens didn’t need to panic. Ebola couldn’t harm us here, because “Our infrastructure is so advanced, that it won’t cause any problems here.”

Famous last words in my opinion, and if the mass media is telling citizens not to panic, I think the opposite plan is in order, and everyone should be on a heightened sense of alert because of it.

There are a lot of things you can do to protect yourself and your family against the spread of infection, bacteria and virus borne illness. And the first step is knowing the difference between a virus, and bacteria.

BACTERIA

Bacteria is a single celled organism that is everywhere. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria (such as those that cause infections). like the There are bacteria that can live on their own, and others that live off a host (a parasite).

The one good thing about bacteria, is that in most cases it can be killed by an antibiotic. There are more bacteria that are becoming resistant to antibiotics because of misuse, but in general terms a bacterial infection can be treated with an antibiotic.

A VIRUS

A virus (like the Coronavirus) is a microorganism that is even smaller than bacteria. It cannot reproduce on its own, instead, it invades a living cell of a host, and replicates itself there.

Being that this organism is so tiny, and made up differently than bacteria, antibiotics are of no use when it comes to treating someone that has a viral infection.

So knowing the difference of these to microscopic organisms will give you a little bit of background knowledge in knowing how to ward off bad bacteria, and viruses.

With this knowledge, now you have to learn what is bad bacteria, and what is a virus so you will know how to hopefully prevent infection, as well as how to treat each accordingly.

Unfortunately when we are talking about the Coronavirus, it is a virus, meaning you cannot treat it with antibiotics. In fact doing so could actually cause more damage than helping the person who you may feel is infected.

So I would advise you to do your own research into different bacteria, and viruses so you will know signs and symptoms, and what to look for.

But onto what this is really about, the things you can do now to prepare for a major pandemic, and what you can do to keep your family safe, and hopefully healthy.

A HOME PANDEMIC KIT

This is a really good first step. You need to have this kit in your home, so in case you need it, you already have it. Do not wait until the CDC reports a wide sweeping pandemic is threatening the U.S. Put your kit together now! This is what I have in my pandemic kit:

  • Large plastic tote
  • Small, shallow waterproof container, like a kitty litter box.
  • 1 gallon bleach
  • 1 box of nitrile gloves in your size (not latex)
  • Surgical masks, or bandanas
  • N-95 respirator masks (make sure they fit you correctly)
  • Protective eye wear (like clear sunglasses)
  • Multiple hand sanitizers (they disappear quickly, so having a lot is better)
  • Sani-Wipes (for porous surfaces)
  • Disinfectant spray (like Lysol)
  • Disinfectant cleaner
  • Large scrub bucket
  • Shower caps (or disposable caps-like the lunch lady wears)
  • Duct tape
  • Sheet plastic
  • Kleenex
  • Throw away towels
  • Gallon size plastic bags
  • 1 box of large trash bags

Having all of this stuff in a large plastic tote stuck away in a closet close to your front door is ideal. Hopefully you will never need it, but if you have this, it will help. Everything that I have in my kit is ready to go in case there is a widespread pandemic.

The bleach is used as a cleaner, the gloves are self-explanatory I think. If you do not have access to surgical masks, get some bandanas, you can use these like face masks, and many other useful purposes.

The shower caps, or lunch lady head dresses are nice to have to keep your hair out of the line of fire in case you are around sick people. You don’t really want the germs all over your hair, do you?

You will need duct tape and sheets of plastic to either seal up your house, or if you are making a contamination room in part of your home. You can find the plastic film at most home improvement stores. And let’s be honest, you can never have enough duct tape!

You may be wondering about the kitty litter pan, but this is something you can stick at your front door. Fill it about half way with water, and add a cup of bleach. If you are worried about stuff being tracked into your home, wash off the bottom of your shoes with this before coming into your house.

*DISCLAIMER*Now, common sense will tell you not to step directly out of the bleach water into your home otherwise you could be bleaching your carpet, or ruining your floors, so use some throw away towels to step onto after you have come out of the bleach water.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Practice how to properly put on, and take off your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This would be necessary in an extreme situation, but it’s good to know just in case.

FOOD AND WATER

In most instances, many household have less than a 3 day supply of food in their homes. If you are anything like me, this would be an awful feeling. And in a pandemic type situation, I feel it is better to have more, so I would be shooting for at least a 3 month supply of food, and hopefully 6 months.

I am generally pretty lazy, and I don’t like wasting my time or money by going to the grocery store on my way home from work. And I certainly do not want to spend a Saturday or Sunday at a large store with everyone else. So I plan my shopping trips in the off hours, and I try to make a list of everything I will need.

These large shopping trips can usually yield at least 3 weeks’ worth of meals for our family, and having extra is always better, so if we can afford it, we buy more. And in some instances, we have bought grocery items online and never even have to leave our home, which is my favorite thing to do. I get to sit on my couch, and but exactly what I want, without going to the store.

If there is a potential for a situation that will keep us locked up at home, and if my gut is telling me to get extra prepared (like it is right now) I will go the store late at night when there are not many shoppers, and get as much as I can, planning on at least 3 months worth of long term food for our pantry.

And once I get it home, it goes into storage tubs, and random places that most people would never think to look for food. It may sound odd to do this, but I want to make sure that my planning id for my family, and not left out to tempt someone who did not have the foresight to plan ahead.

Sorry, but my family comes first, and if I was able to take the time to plan, and store food I have no pity for those who have not prepared. If you are not prepared, your family will be the ones who suffer. So save yourself a lot of heartache and grief, and prepare now, while you can.

PANDEMIC SECURITY

If you haven’t watched the movie Contagion, I highly recommend you do. Although a drama, it really gives a good insight of what happens in a pandemic situation. Yes, it is not real, but it kind of gives you an example of how people may act, what happens when there is no one to pick up the garbage, and the mass panic the sweeps through the country.

You need to have security. You need to have multiple ways to keep your family safe. A firearm is awesome, as is pepper spray, bats, and anything else you can think of.

Have a dog or two. Keep your doors locked in your home, as well as your vehicles.  Keep your windows locked, and clear away bushes from your windows.

Install a driveway alarm if you have a long driveway. If you have a large piece of land, have a gate at the end of your driveway. Create as much of a barrier between your home, or ‘safe zone’ and others.

BUG IN AND BLEND IN

In a pandemic event, the best case scenario is for you to stay home, in the comfort of your own home. I would not recommend bugging out in this type of situation unless you had absolutely no way to stay in your own home.

Think about it, everything you have been planning and prepping for resides in your current home. That is unless you have a bug out location that you have been stockpiling. But, how far away is that location from where you are now? Is it easily accessible by you, how about others? How about the roadways, will you be able to make it there? Is it really worth the risk?

These are all things you need to consider if you feel your best option is to bug out.

Also, think about blending in. Try not to stand out, and definitely do not dry attention to yourself, your family, or your home.  You do not want to risk others coming for what you have worked so hard to plan for, and you don’t want them taking your stuff. So keep your supplies out of sight, and lay low as much as you can.

As you can see, preparing for a pandemic is a lot like what we already do by living a more prepared lifestyle. However, there are a few tips we would like to leave you with in case you are presented with a pandemic situation.

TREAT EVERYONE AS IF THEY ARE SICK

No matter how well people look, they can be in a very infectious stage of a sickness. Assume everyone you come into contact with is sick. This means always washing your hands, wiping down grocery carts before shopping, and assuming everything you have come into contact with is a vector (transmitter)

Refrain from shaking hands with others. Don’t touch others stuff. If you have to use someone else’s desk at work, clean it before you use it. By practicing this, you will not only protect yourself, but others as well. This is just a good habit to get into now, so that if something horrible happens, this is already a habit for you.

EAT HEALTHY

By keeping your body healthy, you are helping to keep your immune system functioning at its highest level. If your immune system is fighting, you have a better chance of not getting sick. Eat a well-balanced diet including focusing on proteins, green leafy vegetables and fruits. Try to stay away from the starchy sweets, as this may taste good, but it doesn’t help to keep you healthy. However, don’t deprive yourself, a home baked sweet now and then isn’t a bad thing.

GET IN SHAPE

If you are fit, chances are your body will be able to fight of intruders easier. Get in the habit of getting some type of exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. It’s also important to get enough rest, and try to keep your stress level down. All of these things can make it harder for your body to work at its highest level, and put you and your family at an increased risk.

KEEP YOUR HOME CLEAN

I know, this is easier said than done, but it helps.  Keep your home as clean as you can. Use disinfectant wipes in the kitchen, on door knobs, hand rails and light switches. You can also add air scrubbing plants to your home to help keep the air in your home clean and fresh. Pothos is a great plant, and it is extremely hardy, even for those of us who don’t really have a green thumb.

This is by no means an all-inclusive list of what to do in case of a pandemic outbreak, but it will give you a good start on things you can do now in order to help your family stay healthy and safe.

Freedom, Not Freeloaders—To Live a Free, Independent, and Self-Reliant Life is to practice Personal Responsibility

The word “Freedom” is a word that is used all too often and without the knowledge of what it really means in life today. To some, Freedom is being given what they want – money, healthcare, free cell phones, etc… Based on the 2012 Presidential election, what else are we to believe? This is not what Freedom really is, but far too many people think it is. The voters that got what they wanted do not realize that no government will ever give Freedom to the citizens they control. There is no reason to do so. For any Government to give its citizens Freedom is to relinquish power and control and much like an actual Bigfoot sighting, it is a rare event and governments relish the power they have and always crave more.

When the United States was founded, people had no problem with the concept that you worked to make it through life. That was life. Each person depended on their own strengths and skills to earn their way through life. This is the way it was and the way it should be. But today, it is so different. People consider themselves too good to actually work. They rely on some government handout that allows them to stay at home. This is easy to understand when you have 99 weeks of unemployment checks arriving at your house. To most of the people that receive unemployment checks will milk the situation as long as they can. It is much easier to collect paycheck without actually working for it. If you take a close look, after a year of “working” for your unemployment check and not taking jobs outside of your comfort level that actually require substantially more effort to earn just a little bit more, it is an easy job to decide what most Americans will choose – the government provided stipend.

There are the people that depend on government for as much possible to live. If they could figure out a way to get the government to give them everything they need to live as well as they want, they would do it. They have no idea where the money actually comes from or who is forced to pay for it. They just see the government as a huge supply of money to pay for their every need. To them, this is the Constitutional role of government. This is the reason that government exists.

For those that choose the government stipend, congratulations, you just gave up some of your Independence. You have taken the first step to relying on the government to take care of you – and you did it by choice. There are so many other programs where you can get “free” stuff. It all sounds so good. Getting things you did not actually earn. The fact you may feel entitled to these things only serves to enslave you to the ones that provide this help.

Freedom is a product of Liberty, Independence, Personal Responsibility, and Self-Reliance. When you exercise these four traits, you are Free. You are free to live your life as you see fit. You owe nobody anything. You are not dependent on one entity for anything. There are no promises of wealth beyond what you are willing to do to acquire it yourself. You work hard, putting in long hours to exploit your skills to acquire the necessary wealth to live the life in the manner you wish. There is almost nothing to stop you from doing this… Almost nothing… But there is something. There are all of the social programs that take wealth from you and give it to those who did not earn it. This is not Freedom. This is how government takes care of the people owned by the government.

Government should be an entity that provides for the citizens what the citizens CANNOT provide for themselves. This includes but is not limited to a military for security, the building of roads for commerce, and construction and maintenance of infrastructure within the country that is not built by private enterprise. Instead, government now exists to provide for its citizens things that they have provided for themselves for centuries. For the government to give to someone, it first must take from others. Productivity is everything in a Free society, this means Capitalism and a Free Market. Something no longer taught in schools is that the higher the productivity, the higher the standard of living. Anything that limits productivity, limits the highest standard of living that could be achieved.

Socialism is one of those limitations. Socialism tries to narrow the economic gap by taking away from the most productive and spreading that wealth around to others that did not earn it under the guise of fairness or equality. The way this transfer of wealth is tolerated is by accusing the wealthy of being selfish for wanting to keep what they earned. What is ignored or just not realized is this transfer of wealth is both a fine on being productive and an increase of government dependency of a growing segment of the population. The more dependent this population is on the government, the less free they are to live as Independent and Free people. One would think this would be patently obvious but to those that live for handouts, they are more concerned with the right now rather than the future.

It is easy to understand the goal of big government enslaving people this way. It is all about power. Just like a drug addict that needs just one more hit, entitlements have become a way of life for more and more people. At some point, they cannot or refuse to live without this money that has been given to them for the many years. They are addicted and feel threatened when they realize they may actually have to earn what they have. They never realize that at some point, all the freebies will end when handouts exceed productivity.

Politicians know they own these dependent people. People we elect to office are suppose to work for the people, but this is where the tables change. Elected government officials know they own these voters they continue to give more and more handouts. When you look at American history, you see the courage that was required by individuals to relocate from the east to the west in covered wagons. There were no government subsidies to make this happen. They were free to live their lives and they chose to do this. Can you imagine welfare recipients mustering the fortitude to do this today? With the entitlement mentality they have accepted for themselves, there is no way they could do what was necessary to settle the west. You cannot even get them to pick up the trash in front of their home. They refuse to do what is necessary to earn their way through life on their own much less make any real attempt to improve their lives. They see no value in work. In fact, after so many years of being paid to do nothing productive, they probably do not even know how to be productive members of society.

Taking money from successful people will never improve the lives of people that are dependent on Government and are becoming even more so. Years ago when Social Security was formed, America was promised that this money would never be touched by the government… that it was in an account for each person. That has proven to be a lie. The Federal Government has taken that money and thrown it into the General Fund. We were also promised that Social Security benefits would not be taxed. Once again, the Federal Government has changed their mind. It will not be long until the Government will attempt to absorb any 401K plan or IRA Retirement. The larger Government grows, the more money it needs and the more money it will take. Remember, the Government is not interested in protecting us, it is quickly moving to a position where it wants to control us. We need to protect ourselves as best we can.

How do we do this as citizens? It really is not all that hard although it does take a concerted effort and perhaps a change in lifestyle and attitude. Let us take a look at what “Freedom” really is. As mentioned earlier, Freedom is a product of Liberty, Independence, Personal Responsibility, and Self-Reliance.

For those that actually seek a Free, Independent, and Self-Reliant life, we will present one way to do this. Keep in mind, the idea is to live free from the Dependency of Government and Free from others that feel entitled to live off of your hard work.

The concept is to see what it is you can do to improve your life without being a slave to a paycheck. This seems like a ridiculous statement, but it is possible. How does one achieve this goal? How does one take control of his (or her) life without living like a homeless peasant? It is not as difficult as you might think.

Imagine how great it would be not to be indebted to anyone. A Free man is indebted to no one. This is the life that everyone should work to achieve. Forget working to have $100 million. Just work to be Free… That is the key to happiness.

  1. Pay off your Credit cards. Get out of debt. Pay cash for everything. This is a hard lifestyle change for most people to do, but it is well worth it. How many people have $10,000 or more in Credit Card debt? Look at it like this. How long are you going to continue to pay for that sandwich you ate a year ago and paid for it on the Credit Card that that is never paid in full? Credit Cards charge 18-29% interest. You have the choice to pay the banks that amount of interest or keep it for yourself. It is acceptable to use Credit Cards, but always pay it off completely each and every month. In this society, you almost have to have a credit card. You cannot rent a rental car without a credit card. Many hotels require a credit card to check in. If you do have a credit card, keep the credit limit to less than $2000. If you cannot afford it, do not buy it. NO EXCUSES!!!
  2. Do not live beyond your means. Regardless of what you make, do not have a lifestyle that exceeds your income. In fact, it is much better to live below your means.
  3. Be smart when you purchase a house. Do not purchase a house beyond your financial abilities. When buying a house, purchase in a buyer’s market rather than a seller’s market. This will give you (the buyer) the most house for the dollar spent. Any real estate professional can tell you what the ratio of homes on the market with the number of potential buyers. Buy low, sell high. A simple concept to understand. This is not as hard as one would think to discover this information.
  4. You need to figure out what you really need to live a comfortable life. Food, shelter, security, etc…, and invest whatever you can to acquire these items. Gold and Silver coins should be part of your long term plan. Purchasing some acreage in the country away from urban areas is a good idea. Putting a small house or cabin on this property gives you somewhere to go in an emergency. Most middle-class people are actually able to do this if they watch their lifestyle expenses.
  5. The purchase of Gold and Silver coins is usually a good investment. One of the benefits of this investment is that the purchase can be completely hidden. American Eagle or Canadian Maple Leaf gold coins are the best choices as they are easily traded. Our opinion is if you have $100,000, you should have $50,000 in 1 ounce Gold coins and $50,000 in 1 ounce Silver coins. Beyond that, the split should be $66,000 in Gold coins and $34,000 in Silver coins for every $100,000. You want to take possession of these coins and not keep them in a bank. You want to make yourself completely independent from any financial institution. While some might think this to be a very stupid and unproductive investment strategy, the value of this strategy is that no one has a record of your actual wealth.NOTE: Before engaging in any investing, you first must take the time to educate yourself on the subject. Investing contains many pitfalls and incompetance can lead to financial disaster.
  6. Paying off your car loan may or may not be a smart idea. If you have a 2.9% loan, you may want to keep making the payment because it is such a small rate of interest you are paying for the money. However, if you think your employment might be in question, paying off the car should be something to consider.
  7. Plant a garden and grow as much of your own food as possible. This seems like such a simple concept, but it is not practiced as much as it could be. Victory Gardens were in everyone’s backyard during World War II and provided food for many people. Remember, aside from the purchase of the seeds, there is no tax on this food. It might take a couple of growing seasons to get it right, but it is not all that difficult to achieve a successful garden to feed a family with home grown vegetables.
  8. Purchase in bulk if you can, but only the items you will actually use. There is no reason to buy 50 lbs of lima beans if you will not eat lima beans. Purchasing in bulk really only works if you have the room to store the bulk and you actually enjoy using the product.
  9. Because of the excessive spending of the Federal Government, just like Social Security, there will one day be a run to nationalize private retirement accounts. You might want to consider liquidating your 401K retirement accounts and convert them into Gold and Silver coins and just keep them hidden in a vault totally independent of any other entity. The idea is to keep this investment asset off the grid and unknown to anyone other than whom you choose to share this information.
  10. If you look on the internet, many lists can be found on basic goods that will be needed in times of emergency. It is always a good idea to stock up for an emergency to prevent being a victim of shortages in stores during emergencies.
  11. If you can position yourself with no mortgage, no auto loan, and no credit card debt, you really do not need that much money each month to live a comfortable lifestyle. It will take work, but this should be your ultimate goal because the result will be a high standard of living.

By assessing these points, you can see where you stand and how venerable you are to the state of the economy.

Why is all this important? It is not important if you do not care, but for those that do care, take note of this observation. Taxes will be going up on everyone over the next few years. It is no secret. The harder you work, the more you make and the more is taken away from you under the guise of fairness aka The Redistribution of Wealth. At present (2012), a person can earn about $9500/year without having to even file a tax return. For two people, that is $19,000/year earning potential without the requirement to file a tax return. Take a look at the following video clips and you will see the people that want to spend your tax money. What this really means is that if you do not owe money, have no credit card debt, mortgage, car loan, etc…, you can live a high standard of living on very little money.

The only thing that is at stake is the Freedom of all Americans.

The only thing a few of them know is they support Anti-Capitalism, Socialism,
and stopping anyone that disagrees with their message… whatever that is.
So many of them have no idea why they are actually protesting.

Is this really what you want your hard earned money supporting? Most of us worked hard for our money and these are the people that want to take it from us. These are the people that want higher taxes on everyone that work hard to earn a living. These people are the ones that want “Free Stuff” from the government. These are the people that despise Capitalism because they have been so indoctrinated with Socialist propaganda that relieves them from personal responsibility for their lives. Somehow, their decisions are not the cause of their problems, it is someone else’s fault and they plan on the Government to seek out revenge on those they see as the enemy. The people they see as the enemy are the people that have worked hard for themselves to achieve something worth having and they now want their piece. The fact they did nothing to earn what they want does not matter. At some point you have to protect what you worked hard to earn, because if you do not, these are the people that will have the government take it from you.

Are these people going to hate me for writing this article? Of course they are and if they could get the Government to stop me from writing this and exercising my First Amendment rights, you can bet they would.

We Are Living In The Real Hunger Games

It is hard to believe, Christmas is yet upon us again, seems that the year just flew by. And so, this past Saturday on my long six-mile run, I reflected on the past week.

Earlier this week I was contacted by a man here in Texas, who offered a very interesting proposal. His concern was that big cities were drowning out the voices of rural communities. He asked if it were possible to have an electoral college at the State level. All week long I have been pondering his proposal, and then, during my Saturday morning run, it hit me.

We are living in a real “Hunger Games”.

I am quite sure you have heard the saying of “art imitating life”, that adage applies here. Think about the trilogy movie series called “The Hunger Games.” The premise of the film is that in America there had been a civil war. The resolution of that conflagration was that the government, described as “The Capitol,” divided the country into Districts. Each of those Districts were responsible for certain commodity production that served the purpose of The Capitol. The Capitol was the place where the elites resided, while the Districts were rural, and existed under the watchful eye of the tyrannical government…and yes, they were disarmed.

Consider what is happening in America if you examine the 2016 presidential electoral map as broken down by counties. Look at Oregon. It is primarily red save for two major places, Portland and Eugene. Washington State is red except for one major spot, King County – Seattle and Tacoma. Nevada is the same, red except for Las Vegas (Clarke County) and Reno. New Mexico, the same is repeated, most red save for Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Colorado was once a strong red state, but due to Denver and Boulder, it went from purple to blue. Virginia was flipped from blue to red because of the major population counties in Northern Virginia of Fairfax and Prince William. And down south traditionally conservative, red, States such as Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida are watching its major cities, population centers, trend to the progressive socialist left…potentially placing these states in danger of flipping.

As well, consider major Democrat [Socialist] controlled States such as New York, California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Many describe Pennsylvania as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between. In Illinois, save for Chicago (Cook County), the Land of Lincoln is quite conservative. It is no surprise to anyone that New York City dominates the political atmosphere of the State of New York, upstate New York has little in common with the five boroughs, especially Manhattan. As for California, once outside of the coastal population centers, you will find dedicated, strong conservative regions.

Here in my home state of Texas, the same is being exemplified. Texas possesses three of the top ten largest population centers in America…Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. The I-35 corridor of Texas is dominated by progressive socialist control from Denton down to San Antonio. In the Houston city limits last year, every single elected Republican was defeated. And El Paso can boast that it is home to Robert Francis O’Rourke.   

It is as Thomas Jefferson, the author of our Declaration of Independence and third president, stated. America is becoming divided between the major population centers, “The Capitol”, and the rural areas, “The Districts.” And it is in these population centers where the elitists reside, and as Jefferson asserted, the corruption exists. We must be honest, the greatest failures of governance in America is found in these urban population centers…controlled by the progressive socialist left.

In Texas we are witnessing the migration of many businesses and corporations, such as Toyota N.A. from California, fleeing the onerous and intrusive failed big government policies. These businesses and individuals are escaping the tax, regulatory, and tyrannical that have been associated with progressive socialism throughout history. It is the reason why so many fled other countries where this philosophy of governance has driven them to the shores of America.

And, when one considers Jefferson’s quote in his letter to James Madison, you can understand why we have the US Senate and the Electoral College. This was established to give the smaller states, more rural areas, an equal voice to the larger more populated centers, areas, States. Yes, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in the 2016 election, translating to some 12-13 states. In the Electoral College, it was a landslide victory for Donald Trump, who won close to 38 states. Now, what do we hear from the progressive socialist left? Yes, end the Electoral College, they prefer the tyranny of a pure democracy…the rule of “The Capitol” over the Districts.

Sadly, this is happening in many of the States in our Constitutional Republic, and I do not find it by coincidence. If there is one thing about the left in America, they are highly strategic. They are relocating into economically successful and strong conservative States and turning them blue, based upon the concept of “The Hunger Games”. They are fortifying themselves within the cities, the population centers, which are often strengthened by the academic, media, entertainment, cultural, and political elites.

The greatest amount of despair, despondency, death, crime, pestilence, and corruption is found in our large American cities…and we know who controls them. Thomas Jefferson was so very prescient, and correct, with this assertion. And isn’t it rather interesting that the left wants more public transportation and electric vehicles which regulate, constrain, the movement of Americans?

Also, I highly recommend this book to everyone. 300 pages, color, paperback. The Lost Book of Remedies is helping Americans achieve medical self-sufficiency even in the darkest times using the time-tested methods of our grandparents without spending lots of money on toxic drugs and without side effects.
